This is it boys! After months of waiting Election Day has finally come!

I opened this thread to talk about the results. So who did everybody vote for if you don't mind me asking.

McCain of course.

So the question now is left to us is what is going to happen in the next four years? Will we survive the change till somebody else can get in and change us back?

If he comes through on half of what he's promised, you're gonna have to cope with 8.

My support went to Bob Barr, for all the good it did.

A friend of mine said that he thinks that Obama will move more to the middle than to the left, so that he will still have a chance of getting relected in 2012.

I'm really not sure what will happen now. Obama before said that he wouldn't drill, then compromised with the Republicans and said he would drill, but was he just saying that to get votes, or did he really mean it?

I must say I'm diappointed. Despite all the Obama fever going around, I really honestly thought that McCain could pull it out. I guess I just had too much faith in the American people.

I think it depends on the perspective you choose to look at.

Liberals will come to be shocked at some rather conservative things he might ultimately do, while the naysayers will probably be forced to admit he wasn't quite as bad as they thought he would be initially. For this perspective, he will most certainly find himself pushed toward the median as he sorts out messes that were created over decades.

As far as the drilling issue specifically, to my understanding he wants the oil companies to primarily either drill on the land they hold claim to now or forfeit their claims so the land can be used by someone else if not specifically for oil production. He did mention drilling offshore during one of the debates, reluctantly and with no conviction, almost as an afterthought to not consciously lose any votes. Don't count too strongly on offshore drilling as anything but an afterthought similar to his nuclear plans.

For you specifically Steve, I will say you're going to discover ultimately how similar he is to McCain-for better or worse. You might feel queasy reading that and you have my apologies for it but that's my perspective and I'm sticking to it. The idea that we have two parties is kinda pointless when they're so very identical, when the representatives do the same things for the same interests, and when they both push for 'reaching across the aisle' and nonpartisanship. Either the parties have to be re-inspired to return their ideological roots or they must be scrapped. We should also be adding those 'other' parties to debates while we're at it. My perspective here is that what we've got does not work and does not serve anyone but the representatives themselves.

I said it at the beginning and I'll also be sticking to this perspective- McCain was a sacrificial offering and honestly was not supposed to win. He served his country yet again (without too much hyperbole) as a prisoner again, this time to his party and advisors. The stench of Rove is all over it, top to bottom and side to wretched side.

We'll just have to wait and see, I guess. Maybe he will reach out to the Republicans some but that just may be wishful thinking.

One of his promises is an 'all hands on deck' approach. Perhaps all of his promises are wishful thinking. We will definitely see.
