Democrats lead in the money race in the 2008 elections by 100 million dollars. http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB118515382609874577.html?mo ...

Is this bad news for the Republicans? Well a lot of the media would like to think so, but there's an obvious money strategy going on here. It would appear that the big donations are waiting for Fred Thompson to officially join the race. My guess is that Fred is going to kick butt and take names. He's playing out a low key take your time kind of game plan that's already put him ahead of most republican candidates, and in some polls ahead of everyone including Rudy Giuliani who has been slipping.

On the Democrats side it's obvious who is going to get the nomination so why not pour on the bucks now. That is unless of course Al Gore decides to get into it. As some polls show he could easily beat Hillary if he decided to. Apparently though the Dems with the money don't think much of the chance of Al stepping into the ring, and second the guys with the money like Obama, chance or no chance of winning.

Fred Thompson seems to be playing a brave game of "wait to you see the white of their eyes before firing". He's doing things behind the scenes to be sure, and even appeared once on the Tonight Show, but by playing it cool the other guys are facing all the heat of the battle while he remains fresh in the eyes of the American public. By the time the main battle begins, assuming it's between Hillary and Fred the public will have grown tired of Hillary as if she had already been President for 4 years.

The only obvious down side is if the American public gets it into their heads that Hillary is going to win no matter what. Waiting could give her a chance to get a even stronger foot hold, so Fred better have a few other tricks up his sleeve to really rock the house when the time comes. Right now though Fred's playing it like John Wayne, nice and slow with few words.
