Charlton Heston died this weekend at age 84. He was one of my favorite actors. Politically he marched for civil rights in the 60's, and later in life became the President of the American Rifle Association. He was a firm believer in the Constitution and it showed in his actions. As President of the NRA he delivered a jab at then-President Clinton, saying, "America doesn't trust you with our 21-year-old daughters, and we sure, Lord, don't trust you with our guns." He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor. He concluded the latter book with an amalgam of quotes from famous Americans, not unlike the amalgam of famous characters that was the actor himself: "I have a dream. I have not heard anything on cause of death, but I hope it wasn't because someone rented I Am Legend for him.
