Political Discussion / Politics / President / Fred Thompson Downer

Fred's last speech was kind of downer very serious very pessimistic according to this latest report. I suppose it's how you look at it. Some thought he was being realistic. I'm not sure the depressed attitude is the best. Not as Ronald Reaganesque.

Quote:
"I simply believe that on the present course that we're going to be a weaker, less prosperous, more divided nation than what we have been," Thompson told the crowd in a deep baritone that rarely strayed from an even tone. "I do not say that lightly, but I think it's the truth. And I think the American people are ready for the truth."

I'll have to reread it again tomorrow. I wasted a lot of time this evening fighting to get my internet connection back on.

Well there's no sense in putting lipstick on a pig these days, even if you're part of the GOP. Everybody knows we're in deep and who got us there, so I respect Thompson's candor if he wants to avoid BSing the country right out of the gate.

Honestly Tim, it is a bit weird: the two candidates I probably have the most respect for on the GOP side are the ones I would consider the most conservative. Huckabee should be your party's nominee if the GOP actually believes any of the things it says about itself, and Thompson... well, nobody really knows anything about him other than he seems a bit lazy and he would arm college students (which I do think is just dumb). Anyway- he seems harmless thus far other than being way too conservative.

We'll see how things turn out- but how people could hate John Kerry and like Mitt Romney I just don't know. Nor do I see how anyone can avoid seeing Guliani for a total sleezebag with poor management skills that, contray to what he would repeatedly tell you, became apparent on 9/11. Why was he running around in the street that day? Because he had nowhere to go. Against the advice of everyone in NY Emergency management, he just had to put the city's emergency management command center in the World Trade Center. This was really bad when you consider the Emergency Broadcast System system which makes the beeping noise on your tv or radio before inclement weather or an attack on the country was on the WTC roof. I would make some Homer Simpson like jokes about that- but the Mayor's stupidity probably cost some people their lives.

Amen, yo. Mitt makes Kerry look like bedrock. My biggest knock on Rudy is his loyalty-over-competence-and-ethics issue (see Bernie Kerik). I don't think we need another round of that.

Thompson's just another vapid Hollywood-type, really, with some experience in using the government to make money.

I'm not against honesty, but as Reagan taught us in politics there needs to be a lot of optimism. A firm belief in our people, and our system of government laid out for us by our founders, and a belief that this nation is one under God. Now the article paints his speech as being sort of a downer, but you know I didn't have the privilege of actually hearing it so I'm not going to give up on Fred or anything. There's a long way to go, and I can't wait to actually hear what he has to say later on down the line when this election kicks into high gear.

And what's wrong with conservatism anyway?

Is Fred really a conservative? Or a just a political opportunist who'll make money however he can, be it with pro-life group or pharmaceutical companies or Hollywood?

Legal show was none other than Law and Order. Great character. I know next to nothing about his politics but that was a great character.

And the patrons and the actors too are uncertain if the show is through and with sidelong looks await their cue, but the frozen mask just smiles

My mom, when she was alive, absolutely loved this show and I hated it so I would leave the room when she put it on. Years after, Ice-T was added to the cast of one of those L&A shows and I started watching it because of him. Turned out to be an excellent show. Another case where mom knew something better than I did.

I listen to every type of music I can get my hands on. I was a big fan of Ice-T around his Body Count days.

I'm more of a Vanilla Ice guy. Got to love that "Ninja Rap" song from the Turtles movie.

This might be the one thing I've seen here to lead me back to prayer.

Well you might be right. Elvis would probably have kicked Vanilla Ice's butt too for just being in the same room as the king.
