Political Discussion / Politics / Local Politics / The Right to Watch Television?

This  is about 45 minutes up the road from me. I think it's actually kind of funny.
Quote:
BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) -- Commissioners in the city of Brunswick have passed an ordinance designed to stop people from firing guns to celebrate holidays such as New Year's Eve and the Fourth of July.
and here's the funny part
Quote:
Commissioner James Brooks sponsored the measure and says it's designed to "protect innocent bystanders." He says it also should ensure people's right to watch television. This past New Year's Eve, Brooks says he lost TV reception during gunfire and later learned someone had shot up his cable box.
A right to watch TV?  Sure.....

Well personally I think people should fire guns at targets and not just up in the air like a bunch of wild drunks, but that's just me.

As far as an ordinance maybe Commissioner James Brook should have found the guy that shot his box and well shot him back.

Let me clarify. I don't think you have any sort of Constitutional right to shoot your gun in the air, and if you do so, you ought to be held criminally liable for whatever happens to that bullet after it leaves your gun. But the right to watch TV?

I can't say, I'm a TV junkie.

Seriously, I don't think he thought that all the way through. I mean if the government starts handing out free cable tv then that's going too far.

Well, welcome to Georgia, where we'll move the state line if we think we need to.

You have to realize that in Georgia, there's Atlanta, and then there is the rest of the state. Atlanta might as well be on a different planet.

Atlanta I reckon has a wee bit different political opinion than the rest of the state I bet.
