Huckabee is for the fair tax.

Quote:
As Governor of Arkansas, I pushed through the Arkansas Legislature the first major, broad-based tax cuts in state history - a $90 million tax relief package for Arkansas families. I also doubled the standard deduction to $2,000 for single taxpayers and $4,000 for those who are married. Some taxes I eliminated entirely: the marriage penalty, bracket creep caused by inflation, income tax on poor families, and capital gains on home sales. To encourage investment, I cut capital gains for both individuals and businesses. To help people better themselves, I provided tax credits for employee training and education. In total, I cut taxes and fees nearly 100 times during my ten-and-a-half years as Governor, saving the people of Arkansas almost $380 million.

When I left office in early 2007, Arkansas had nearly $850 million in state surplus, which I urged should go back to the people in the form of either a tax rebate or tax cut.

His support of the Fair Tax is probably the most promising area of his positions ,for me at least.

I really hate it when Dems always think we should pay more taxes and if we don't we don't care about the poor and crap like that. I say if you care about the poor, then give to charity. The government really shouldn't be in the charity business.

So in my mind anything that might wind up meaning we pay less taxes is good by me.

The Fair Tax is not a reduction in taxes, although certain groups, especially the poor, would see their overall tax burden drop.

I'm poor so that helps me out. Now refresh my memory again, but the fair tax would mean basically if a person saved their money instead of spending it on all new stuff and bought used cars etc then they'd keep more of their earnings right? So a thrifty person could really save a bunch of money. Yard sales here I come.

Nobody in America is poor.

I think so. Looks like the same material I read a month or so ago.

Quote:
Enables workers to keep their entire paycheck
Enables retirees to keep their entire pension
Refunds in advance the tax on purchases of basic necessities
Allows American products to compete fairly
Brings transparency and accountability to tax policy
Ensures Social Security and Medicare funding
Closes all loopholes and brings fairness to taxation
Abolishes the IRS

Yankee Dems would never go for this. Maybe some southern Dems might.
