Was History always referred to as "Social Studies" or "World Culture"? That always drove me crazy. HISTORY is not a dirty word, why was the school district so afraid to use it!
And what really stuck in my craw was how they crafted the History courses so the end of school always coincided with us reaching the end of WWII.
Why? Why were we never taught about anything that happened in the last 50 years? Didn't they want us to learn anything about Communism? Segregation? Censorship? Vietnam? Watergate? I only learned about recent history by reading ahead on boring days!
Cripes, I didn't even know that Eastern Europe & The Far East was all Communist-dominated until the Tienamen Massacre & the Wall came down. What was so dangerous about the Cold War era that we couldn't even be taught about it in school? Did this happen to anyone else? Please let me know!
