Political Discussion / Politics / President / Obama's aunt fighting deportation

Posted:  26 Mar 2009 16:43
President Barack Obama's aunt, a Kenyan immigrant who ignited controversy last year for living in the United States illegally, has returned to her quiet apartment in a Boston public housing project to prepare for an April 1 deportation hearing that will be closed to the public.

Quote:
"The case is unusual in American history because it's a relative of the president involved in immigration matters," said Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Washington-based Center for Immigration Studies. "It really does present the White House with an opportunity or a minefield. If they follow through on a decision that she should go home, that would actually raise the president's credibility enormously on immigration enforcement."

Yet he'll be condemned if he goes easy on the law for her, even though most of us would understand. He's got two options, get her legalized immediately or set her up nice back in Kenya.

Well I wouldn't condemn him for taking care of his Aunt. A shady business associate or campaign contributor yes, but Aunt, no.

Law is still the law but he can definitely pull strings to get her legalized hastily.

Sure he has to obey the law, but whatever happens to his aunt might just give us a window to how much he cares as a President for his fellow countrymen. Liberals are supposed to be all big hearted and all, but I tend to think when it comes down to it they aren't as tender hearted as they'd like us to think. After all they aren't always to first to contribute their money to worthy causes. It's always tax the rich. Take their money and use it. It's easy to be giving with someone else's money.

I think you're gonna complain about it either way, whether he lets her get deported or not, strictly because it's Obama. Prime example-what has this to do with taxing the rich?

No I wouldn't. Why would I complain if he helped his aunt? I'm from Tn remember. We try and help our family and friends.

I can't speak for other conservatives though. I'm sure there are some that would blast him either way, but I'd like to think I only blast away for things liberals deserve.

If he does, and one of those other conservatives says a word about it, you'll be posting it in a hurry and complaining how he's only there to serve himself and how he's abusing his power.

You might not now that I've called you on it, but we do have an entire site here showing our track records Tim-I didn't just pull it out of thin air.

I'll do you the way you do me. I want proof. You have to show me an exact duplicate moment where I fussed about a politician keeping a relative from being deported. Where's the documentation?

My 'proof' for what I said doesn't require some other politician and deportation of a family member. My 'proof' is how you gripe along with party lines, regardless if they jibe with other previous gripes or not or with what your party line is actually supposed to be.

One piece of evidence for me is that you posted the Catholic criticism piece recently, as if you listen to the Catholics on anything else to begin with. Another time it was that we should have blind allegience to Bush because 'he's our President' where you don't extend the same courtesy here. Aside from that, we have every single post you've made about Obama and the democrats in general since he was running for office, which shows a history of you having it in for the party-I'll summon up 'democrat math' which you posted more than once.

My position is not only justified but evidenced, so you won't be doing me today I guess. I won't tell your wife you tried any such thing if you don't do it again.

Barney Fife: [angry] Oh, you're just full of fun today, aren't you? Why don't we go up to the old people's home and wax the steps?

BOSTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama's Kenyan aunt, who was ordered deported five years ago, can stay in the United States legally until next year when she makes a new asylum bid, an immigration judge ruled on Wednesday.

You see this part?
Quote:
In 2001 she received a U.S. Social Security card after proving she was in the United States legally and the following year she sought political asylum due to violence in Kenya. She applied to live in a public housing project in Boston.

Actually I was pointing to her Social Security card, but yes, that seems to be unique to this President.

Right what the heck is she doing with a social security card if she's not a citizen?
