The justice did not deny anything, he was explaining how the judgement was arrived at by showing previous and relative case examples/precedents and explaining the terminology of the statute in question. Again-defining the statute and not the nation.
A supreme court justice cannot make a pro or anti God judgement in accordance with the first amendment.

And the patrons and the actors too are uncertain if the show is through and with sidelong looks await their cue, but the frozen mask just smiles
